I’m going to be analyzing the “good dog machine” which is an imitation of the Rube Goldberg Machine. So first they are going to light a string in fire which is going to produces conduction and chemical energy. The car in the video is going to roll down the red inclined plane that it is sitting on, producing mechanical energy and knock down the row of dominos that is lying in front of it. The dominos will go into the cup hanging by a string and create gravitational energy, causing the cup to move down like an elevator going downward. As, the cup goes down, it lifts another plane with a ball sitting on it and causes it to roll forward. The ball will fall into a 90 degree angle white pipe that will lead the ball to the lever and have the dog treat that was sitting at the end of the lever fly up into the dogs mouth. This is a great example of cause and effect. You can clearly see how each step causes an effect. So, the string that is lit on fire causes the car to crash into dominos. When the dominos fall that causes the cup to gravitate toward the ground. Once the cup hits the ground the ball begins to roll of due to the string being pulled from under. The ball rolling causes the ball to roll into the pipe. The pipe causes the ball to fall on the lever which causes the treat to fly into the air. I think these machines and experiments are really useful if you aren’t capable of doing all these things at once then the cause and effect side of the experiments really helps out with that. I’ve never heard of this machine or experiment but I think it is a really unique and interesting way to compare this to an argumentive essay and how using cause and effect can be effective. In an argument pulling out factual evidence of how something is causing and effect is a really strong tool because then you have proof that something is working or not working.
